1.14. Prayer of Anastasios, donor

Description:
Six blue-grey marble fragments, H. H. 0.135, D. 0.21, from the crowning feature of a balustrade; the top is smooth; one side has a moulded profile, the other is smooth, tapering inwards. The underside has been left rough. a: W. W. 0.375; b: W. W. 0.61; c: two joining pieces, W. W. 0.35; d: W. W. 0.28; e: similar profile. but perhaps different lettering, W. W. 0.25. Resembles 1.12, 1.13, 1.15, 1.16.

Inscribed in one line on upper fascia of moulded profile.
Letters:
0.025; square epsilon and sigma in a, b and d, lunate in e.
Date:
Fifth/sixth century (location, lettering).
Findspot:
Temple/Church: sector xv; temenos, sector iv, str. I; three stray finds.
Original Location:
Temple/Church: ?crowning the chancel barrier.
Last recorded location:
Museum.
History of discovery:
Excavated by the NYU expedition in 1962, 1963 and 1965 (62.202, 62.203, 63.602, 65.55 and unnumbered).
