56. Epigram for Pytheas
Description
- Monument:
Six fragments from a white marble statue base shaft with panels within moulded edges on all sides (a 1.40 × 0.51 × 0.43).
- Text:
Inscribed on the front panel; the last letter of l. 11 cut on moulding.
- Letters:
Av. 0.04; irregular, elongated: Ε is both square and lunate; dot for stop.
- Date:
Late fifth century (prosopography).

Translation
City of the Paphian goddess and of Pytheas: she, for her
part, having exalted [?has given blessings] appropriate to a goddess
[to] the city [...?while he] in addition to constant works,
unsparing of his wealth, has built [...] as an offering.
