8.275. Epitaph of Theodokios
- Description:
- Two joining fragments of a white marble plaque (H. 0.29 × W. 017 x D. 0.065), with upper and right edge partly surviving. The stone appears to have been cut down—rather than simply broken—to the left, so that it is difficult to know what length of lines to assume.
- Text:
- Inscribed across the centre of the face.
- Letters:
- Very rough and irregular; 0.02-0.025.
- Date:
- Sixth century A.D. or later (lettering).
- Findspot:
- Theatre, post-scaenam area.
- Original Location:
- Unknown.
- Last recorded location:
- Museum.
- History of discovery:
- Excavated by the NYU expedition in 1971 (71.348).
- Bibliography:
- Published by Roueché, Aphrodisias 174 whence McCabe PHI Aphrodisias 753.
- Text constituted from:
- Transcription (Roueché). This edition Roueché (2007).
