Description:
Four fragments (two of which join) of white marble revetment. a and b both have an upper edge surviving; otherwise, all sides are broken. b is made up of two joining pieces.

Inscribed on two faces.
Letters:
Face 1 has letters with clear triangular trenches, which are probably the earlier inscription; cut at 0.165 from the upper edge, they are 0.175 high. Face 2 has letters cut 0.085 from the upper edge; they have broad flat trenches, and measure 0.275.
Date:
Face 2 perhaps mid fifth century (prosopography).
Findspot:
Theatre Baths: south Aula Thermale, stratum 2, trench 3, at floor level.
Original Location:
Unknown; probably findspot.
Last recorded location:
Museum (1977).
History of discovery:
Excavated by the NYU expedition in 1974 (74.198).

Apparatus

Face 2 of b is most easily read as Ἀμπε[λιο-] a reference to Ampelius. The final surviving letter might be Η rather than Ε, but the traces do not seem to suggest Ρ, the only other real possibility.
