11.225. Prayer of Theodoros, 'the Bell'
- Description:
- A masonry block (H. 0.58 × W. 0.73 × D. 0.25) pierced with five holes - the largest is in the centre, surrounded by four others arranged in a square. The holes do not impinge on the text, and could conceivably form part of the original monument, but it seems more probable that the stone was re-used. The surface is worn, especially at the lower left corner.
- Text:
- The inscription runs along the edge, below the holes.
- Letters:
- The letters are cut between guidelines; av. 0.02; scroll, following or above letter, for abbreviation.
- Date:
- Fifth-tenth century A.D. (lettering, content)
- Findspot:
- City, Water Channel area, section 5.
- Original Location:
- Unknown.
- Last recorded location:
- Museum.
- History of discovery:
- Excavated by the NYU expedition (68.269).
- Bibliography:
- Published by Roueché, Aphrodisias in Late Antiquity no. 115, whence McCabe PHI Aphrodisias 636.
- Text constituted from:
- Transcriptions (Reynolds, Roueché). This edition Roueché (2007).
