17. Building inscription of Helladius

Description

  • Monument: A white marble cornice block with projcting moulding (0.345 × 0.305 × 0.75).
  • Text: Inscribed on the upper fascia of the moulding (H. 0.113).
  • Letters: 0.017; clear cut, with a flowing line similar to ALA 12, 252, and 18.
  • Date: First half of the fourth century (lettering).

  θῆκε κἀμὲ ἐνθάδε Ἑλλάδιος ὁ
  ἀνανεωτὴς τῆς λαμπρᾶς μητροπόλεως.

Translation

Helladius, the renovator of the splendid metropolis, established me also.
